Chapter 4: Thinking

You feel the sun slipping through the window to warm your bed, and you tighten your hold on Junsu. The gentle, even rise and fall of his chest tells you he's still sleeping. You're ridiculously grateful for the calm and quiet of moments just like these.

You try to hold on to that wave of contentment, but your thoughts soon turn to other matters in the group. You can't prevent the small pangs of guilt for being so happy when Changmin and Jaejoong are so obviously falling apart.

Jae and Yunho have talked about it, you're sure. They're only trying to be good band-parents by not saying anything about it to you and Su. You hope they've come up with some kind of plan, because you don't know if you'll be able to stand it if Min falls away again.

"You're thinking too much. You and Min… The rest of us could stop thinking completely, and you two would completely make up for it." Junsu rolls over in your arms and smiles at you sleepily. "Didn't even have to see you to know it."

Smiling back, you lean over for your morning kiss. Short, soft, sweet, and everything you need to start your day. "Hi. And just for the record, I am nowhere near as bad as Min. He's in a class all his own where over-thinking is concerned."

He nods, and you raise your head just slightly off the pillow to check the clock. Still a few minutes before you have to get up. When you lay your head back down again, you see that Junsu has his concerned/thoughtful face on. "Chunnie? Do you… Are they going to be okay? Honestly, do you really think so?"

You sigh and smooth the creases from his forehead with your fingers. "I don't know SuSu. I just wish we could get inside Min's head, figure all this out then help him deal with whatever he's thinking. It's not fair of him to try to do all of this on his own. But I guess all we can do is wait it out and hope for the best."

He nods again, steals one more kiss, then rolls away from you to move off the bed. You watch him walk from the bedroom and debate whether or not to steal a few more minutes of rest. When your foot starts tapping against the wall almost of its own accord, you decide against it.

You get to the bathroom just as Su emerges, and the two of you trade looks at the sound of voices from Jae and Min's room. It's been far too silent in there the past few days. You want to believe the discussion can mean only good things.

Junsu already has your coffee waiting for you when you get to the kitchen not long after. Yunho's reviewing the schedule but raises his eyes to meet you. "The other two still talking?" His tone is non-chalant; the expression in his eyes is anything but.

The sound of a door opening down the hall answers his question before you can. "Min, wait!" Jae sounds upset, and you don't want to think about what that means. You meet Junsu's eyes, see the same concern reflected there.

Changmin doesn't answer Jae as he strides past the kitchen on his way to the front door. "I'm going for a walk. Meet you guys at practice," he calls back just before you hear the front door open then close with a click that seems to almost echo. The three of you rush out of the kitchen.

Jae stands in their bedroom doorway, one hand supporting him against the wall and the other covering his mouth. As you watch, he sinks slowly to his knees. "I don't understand. I don't. I thought…"

Yunho reaches him first, wrapping his arms around Jae's trembling shoulders. You and Junsu aren't far behind, but you feel so helpless when all you can do is rest your own hand against his back. "What happened, Jae?" Yunho pulls away slightly to look in Jae's eyes.

A strangled sob escapes his lips as Jae shakes his head. You're not sure if it's in denial, disbelief, or an attempt to wake himself up. A combination of all three. You want to do the same when you hear his words. "He broke up with me."
